About the Conference
Buddhist Ethics 3.0 is the third in a series of conferences originally launched by the editorial team of the Journal of Buddhist Ethics. The first was hosted by Daniel Cozort at Dickinson College in 2016. The second was hosted by Rongdao Lai at the University of Southern California in 2018. The third was scheduled to be hosted by Michael Jerryson at Youngstown State University in 2020, but COVID struck and the conference was postponed. And, while we were separated from one another anxiously waiting for COVID to be over, a terrible disease took Michael from the world. Buddhist Ethics “3.0” was meant to be the fourth conference—not the third—and that missing number reminds us of the time and people that have passed.
Buddhist Ethics 3.0 is an informal, workshop-style gathering of scholars working on Buddhist ethics and related fields. The focus is on discussion sessions rather than panels and papers. Selected readings will be circulated prior to the workshop, and facilitators will lead participants in discussion over the course of three, dedicated sessions. There will be two evening keynote lectures on Friday and Saturday, which will be open to participants and the general public.

Keynote Lectures
These keynotes are open to the public and hybrid, and can be attended in person or online via Zoom. In person attendees will be asked to follow all current UBC pandemic health guidelines in response to COVID 19, such as masking indoors.
