Sogyal Rinpoche will be giving two lectures at UBC (December 15 and 16, 2009):
- “Finding Peace and Stability in a Troubled World.”
- “The Heart Essence of Tibetan Buddhism.”
Sogyal Rinpoche was born in Tibet, and recognized at an early age as the reincarnation of Tertön Sogyal Lerab Lingpa (1856-1926). He trained under several prominent Tibetan Buddhist teachers, and in 1971, began his study of comparative religion at Cambridge University. Sogyal Rinpoche’s presentations of Buddhist teachings draw from a wide variety of sources to reach a wide audience. He adeptly connects Tibetan teachings with psychology, science, meditation, humanism, philosophy, and topics of contemporary concern, such as our global environment.
UBC’s Buddhism and Contemporary Society Program lectures are made possible by the generous support of TLKY Canada Foundation, and held in collaboration with UBC’s College for Interdisciplinary Studies, Institute of Asian Research, and Department of Asian Studies.
